The Dos and Don’ts of Dining at Disney World

    August 9, 2017 /

Food. It seems like it should be a pretty simple topic, but when traveling with kids, it’s anything but (because, you know, kids). It seems my little people are often hungry on “off times,” sleeping during “dining hours,” hating whatever it is I ordered for them (usually the only thing that would eat the day before), and wiggling about as they struggle with sitting quietly in their chairs while everyone at the table finishes. It just isn’t easy. Think it’ll be easier at dining at Disney World? Well, actually, maybe it will. Maybe it won’t. (But hopefully it will.) Because, again, you know, kids. But there are a few things…

5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Book Your Walt Disney World Vacation (and Why You Need to Answer Them)

    July 14, 2017 /

It's these hiccups that really end up being the stories we carry forward as a family. And it's these hiccups that helps us plan our next trip. Through the past seven years of visiting Walt Disney World a number of times a year (for any number of days, any time of year (except summer...we just don't do Florida Disney sticky, sweat-inducing summer heat)), we've figured out some questions we ask ourselves each and every time we book a new trip. Only after we've figured the answers to these questions out, do we really get to the task of actually making the magic happen.

Tried, True, and Cheap Ways to Make Road Trips with Young Children Entertaining (For Them) and Relaxing (For You)

    May 17, 2017 /

Whether four hours or four days, road trips can be stressful, let alone road trips with kids. Throw a few squirmy toddlers, perhaps a slightly older little person, and a tiny person and those road trips get exponentially more stressful. Whenever those moments in the car seem to be on the verge of bursting open in frustrated wails, I close my eyes and imagine what it would be like to be strapped to the seat in a five-point harness with close to no room to shift my heft left or right, sweet toes dangling at least two feet from the ground, most likely having lost all feeling about forty five minutes into…

Why Spending a Day in Annapolis, Maryland Should Be on Your Next To Do List

    May 9, 2017 /

Kids like water. Fact. Even if they don’t like being in it, they like looking at it. And when looking at it also includes looking at sailboats and pirate-esque ships, they like looking at it even more (unless they are scared of pirates, which is a completely valid fear). What I’m getting at is that Annapolis, Maryland, perched on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River is bound to be an amazing experience for little people based solely upon location (but believe me, that is far from all this quaint little city has to offer…there’s ice cream…oh is there ice cream (stares dreamily out into distance)). Beyond…

Answers to Some Questions You Didn’t Know You Had When Planning a Getaway to Nickelodeon’s All Inclusive Resort in Punta Cana-Updated

Then one day it just started popping up everywhere. I mean every single place I looked. It stalked me. Nickelodeon’s new all inclusive property in Punta Cana. So I researched and read. And reached out to get details. How important are details? Let me say again, I have three little people. Seriously. Details are ridiculously important.

They say it's all in what you do in the off season They say it's all in what you do in the off season. Travel tip for kids? Bring the ball. The football, the soccer ball, the basketball. Whatever it needs to be, bring it. To have a passion to retreat to is such a relief after a day of travel and exploring, especially if your dad has booked you 80000 hours of tours to crusty dusty musty places.

It was supposed to be a vacation, not a trip. So w It was supposed to be a vacation, not a trip. So we turned ourselves into boneless blobs that transitioned from pool to poolside and back again. Except this day. This day we went out to explore and stopped at a cenote to swim. Middle One gave it his full approval and has plans to find more the next opportunity he gets. Little discoveries count as much as big ones.

39/50: Kentucky. We spent the day with the NPS and 39/50: Kentucky. We spent the day with the NPS and couldn't have been happier. Mammoth Caves are unlike any of the other caves we've been to--they're dry and somewhat less impressive, though the cave system is huge (mammoth even). Lincoln's birthplace was a fun little stop.
