Three Kids and a…Time We Didn’t Stay (Our Family Travel Warning)

    August 7, 2018 /

The view as we waited for the gate to be opened was breathtaking. And barren. It was a combination of our first stunned sightings of Mount Etna, its steam puffing into the dusk sky, and the damp dark rolling in over the empty, treeless hills we were perched upon. It was cold excitement, nervous anticipation. The views off the side of the hill probably seemed so inviting because the one before us, of shuttered gates and dirt roads disappearing around the folds of the hills, was so secretive. In retrospect, we should have known. We should have listened. But we didn’t, and, instead, we followed the man bicycling in torn…

Why a Road Trip Around Sicily Should be on Your Family Travel Bucket List

    May 22, 2018 /

There are so many reasons to go on a road trip around Sicily with your little people. So, don’t be like us. Don’t go on a road trip around Sicily by accident. (Or do be like us and do it by accident. Who cares how you land there, just as long as you do it.) I’m not always really sure how we pick where it is we end up traveling to. Some times it depends on a certain climate we want, coupled with an available flight. Other times it might be that the length of time we have is what dictates where we go. And then there are still those…

Our Ten Day Itinerary for Traveling Sicily with Kids (the Good and the Not as Good Choices)

    May 2, 2018 /

We were prepared for this trip. Sort of. I had read and researched what to do in Sicily with kids. Again and again. I had bought books (which admittedly collected some dust on them until about a week or so before we left (I mean I am a mother of three little people; I gave up reading a long time ago (like almost seven years ago))). Still, we had a general idea of what we wanted to do, some suggestions if you will, culled from here and there, but nothing sealed in stone. Part of the reason we were trying to be fluid is we wanted our little people to…

To avoid the heat, most of our Galapagos hikes wer To avoid the heat, most of our Galapagos hikes were pre-breakfast. Bartolome started with an early morning hike giving us views in every direction from the top of a volcanic island with tiny lava lizards living their best lives. It was an easy walk up 350+ steps with platforms along the way to take a break from the uphill climb to soak it all in.

The boys spent the week with @rmfcampsusa and @aki The boys spent the week with @rmfcampsusa and @akinjisoccer in Madrid, where they got to train at Real Madrid City, working in their skills, making friends, and loving every minute. 3K dad and I go to explore Madrid alone (the Big One stayed home) and check in on the boys when we'd watch their games. (Also important to note: they roomed together and both lived to tell the tale.)

Cadillac Ranch. We could've driven by it and never Cadillac Ranch. We could've driven by it and never known it existed, but luckily we did know it existed. Just outside of Amarillo, TX we searched for any small indication of that existence on Route 66. Finally we found it, parked, and walked the flattest field in an arctic blast to see it. Was it worth it? Maybe. Maybe not. We all remember it though, so that's gotta mean something.
